The European Commission has proposed for consideration a draft reform of the European Union migration system. These changes, according to the EU officials, will ensure more active participation of European countries in the program of reception of migrants. This was announced by Ursula von der Leyen.
The European commissioner noted that the international situation is changing and in this regard, it is necessary to change the established system. According to her, the European Commission has already prepared a project for the reform of migration policy in Europe.
“Migration has always been and will remain a factor of life in Europe. But the world is changing, and the old systems are no longer good enough. The European Commission has proposed a new migration strategy,” said von der Leyen.
According to the authors, the project will make the system of migration pressure distribution on the EU countries more equitable.
“Migration pressures at our borders vary, so we must find a new balance on burden sharing,” the official pointed out.
Earlier, all EU member states refused to accept refugees from Afghanistan. President of the European Parliament David Sassoli said that the EU was cold to the idea of accepting refugees fleeing the war in Afghanistan on its territory. He noted that the refugees were accepted just by the countries, which are not part of the European Union.
