In the EU for tough economic sanctions against Belarus

MEPs also called for to be disconnected from SWIFT and banned from participating in the Olympics

The European Parliament has adopted a new resolution on Belarus, which implies the introduction of new sanctions.

This is reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty.

The resolution calls on the EU:

— introduce new against Minsk;
— temporarily disconnect from the SWIFT payment system.

The list is proposed to include all those involved in the forced landing of the Ryanair plane and the detention of Roman Protasevich and Sofia Sapieha.

The MEPs also call for banning Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions, including the Olympic Games. In addition, it is proposed to deprive Belarusian state television of the right to broadcast Euro 2020 matches.

Meanwhile, Lukashenko has toughened the punishment for the protests. The unrecognized president of has signed a law on strengthening responsibility for violating the procedure for holding mass events.
