The death toll from a militant attack in the Tahua area of Niger near the Welsh border has risen to 137, the government said on Tuesday night.
Earlier it was reported about 55 dead.
“The death toll from the terrorist attack in Tahua has risen to 137,” the government said in a televised statement.
The country’s authorities have declared three days of national mourning since March 23.
The Tahua region is one of the areas in the country where the Islamic State in the Great Sahara and other terrorist groups are most active.
Niger is located in the Sahel region of Africa, one of the most problematic on the continent due to terrorist activities and illegal migration.
