Because of the ban on hiring foreign citizens, the US Embassy in Russia is cutting staff and stopping issuing visas.
Suspending the issuance of visas by the US Embassy in Russia will not change anything — they were difficult to obtain before. This was announced on Friday, April 30, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
As reported, the US diplomatic mission in Russia is cutting 75% of its staff and consular services. Americans are advised to leave Russia by June 15. Such actions are related to the ban on hiring foreign citizens.
“Almost, probably, a few Russians could get a visa at the US Embassy in Moscow during the last year, or even more. These visas were almost impossible to obtain. Therefore, nothing changes in this regard, “ Peskov said when asked whether the Kremlin understands that now Russians will be able to get American visas only abroad.
The Kremlin spokesman called for “looking at the root cause of the tense situation” that is developing in relations between the two countries. “If you wind this tangle of unfriendly steps in the opposite direction, it becomes obvious that the forerunner of all this is the unfriendly actions of the United States of America,” he said.
Peskov also said that taking into account the pre-election rhetoric of President Joe Biden, the Russian Federation expected that relations between the countries would be better than they are now. He also denies the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Biden during the latter’s visit to the NATO summit in June.
