In Poland, the British strain of coronavirus was called the cause of the development of the third wave

The British strain is the leading cause of the third wave of the  epidemic in Poland, the country’s health minister, Adam Niedzielski, said on Monday.

It is reported by Eur News with reference to RMF 24.

At a press conference, the minister was asked about the impact of the British strain of  on the daily number of cases. Nedzelsky acknowledged that this option is the main reason for the development of the third wave of the epidemic, which is confirmed by studies of the virus genome in regions of the country where there are a large number of cases.

He recalled that last week such a study was carried out in the Warminsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. It showed that the British variant was responsible for 70% of the cases.

Similar studies have recently been carried out in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

“There we have a share of the British mutation of 77%,” the minister stressed.

In Poland, 43,793 deaths from the virus have been reported today. Since February 9, the average seven-day rate of new infections has been on the rise.

We add that Polish President Andrzej Duda held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to buy a Chinese vaccine, as the country is looking for ways to speed up the vaccination of residents.
