Firefighters with the help of aircraft and equipment continue to fight the fire, but there are many active hotbeds in the country.

In Greece, hundreds of firefighters continue to extinguish a forest fire near Athens. This is reported by DW on Saturday, May 22.

The day before, firefighters were able to take control of the largest fire, but many fires remain active.

Despite the efforts of 270 firefighters with 16 aircraft, 55 square kilometers of pine forests, vineyards and olive orchards have already burned down. According to rescuers, this is the largest fire in the last 20-30 years, which broke out, moreover, unusually early. Expert Evtimios Lekkas from the University of Athens has already called the fire an “ environmental disaster.”

Recall that wildfires are raging in Canada. The fires spread over an area of several thousand hectares. People are warned about the danger. A state of emergency has been declared in one district.
