The traditional May Day demonstration began in Paris, the column started from the Place de la Republique — the second year the demonstration takes place in the context of a pandemic.

The action was organized by the CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires, and UNEF, and UNL trade unions. Representatives of the “yellow vests” also participate in the demonstration.
At the head of the procession, demonstrators with a banner on which the inscription is placed: “For social rights, freedoms, a state of emergency, for peace and international solidarity.”
The demands of the demonstrators are different — jobs, wages, effective management of the corona crisis, a protest against the restriction of freedoms, demand for the reform of unemployment insurance.
A column of demonstrators is being held back by police from several sides.
At the beginning of the march, demonstrators began throwing bottles at the guards.
Law enforcement officers report about 17 detainees.
Later, clashes between demonstrators and police continued. Demonstrators began to throw firecrackers and smoke bombs at the guards, and the police responded with tear gas. At least one police officer was reported injured.
May Day demonstrations are also taking place in other cities in France. In particular, in Marseille and Nantes, 3,500 and 3,700 people took to the streets, respectively.
In Lyon, there were also clashes between police and demonstrators-27 policemen and gendarmes were reported injured. In Nantes, police used water cannons against demonstrators.
