In 2020, the air temperature has become 3 degrees higher, and the sea level is about 15 meters higher.

The temperature of the Earth in 2020 reached a record high for 3 million years, humanity is heading for a catastrophic temperature increase of 2.4 degrees by the end of the century.

This was stated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

According to him, last year the temperature was 3 degrees higher, and the sea level was about 15 meters higher.

“Under current commitments, we are still heading for a catastrophic 2.4-degree temperature rise by the end of the century. We are standing on the edge of a precipice,” Guterres said.

He also stressed that the current commitments of countries to reduce greenhouse emissions are not enough to prevent a climate catastrophe.

“But if we work together, we can prevent the worst consequences of climate destabilization and use the recovery from the pandemic to embark on a cleaner and greener path of development,” the UN Secretary-General said.

Earlier, environmental activist Greta Thunberg criticized world leaders for their inaction in the fight against climate change.
