Germany and France are concerned about the growing number of violations of the ceasefire in the Donbas, and call on the parties to immediately stop the escalation, the Foreign Ministry of both countries said in a statement.
“Germany and France are concerned about the increase in the number of violations of the ceasefire after the stabilization of the situation in eastern Ukraine since July 2020. We are closely monitoring the situation, especially the movements of Russian troops, and call on the parties to refrain and immediately stop the escalation. We reaffirm our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. As mediators in the Normandy format, Germany and France seek to implement the Minsk agreements in full. To this end, negotiations are continuing on a regular basis,” the statement said.
“In this context, we welcome the extension of the mandate of the OSCE Special Observer Mission in Ukraine (SMM) and call for the lifting of restrictions on its freedom of movement so that the SMM can carry out its tasks in accordance with its mandate,” the parties stressed.
