The participants in the meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union agreed on the introduction of sanctions against Turkey. Reported by France Presse.
Turkey’s actions in the Mediterranean were named as one of the key topics for discussion at the summit. EU leaders have decided to expand sanctions against the country due to the illegal activities of the state.
“The EU remains committed to protecting the interests of the union and its member states, as well as maintaining regional stability. In this regard, the summit instructs the EU Council to adopt an additional blacklist based on the decision of November 11, 2019, concerning restrictive measures due to the illegal activities of Turkey in the Mediterranean, ” the document says.
Earlier in November, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling for tough sanctions against Turkey over its behavior in the Mediterranean.
Turkey is conducting seismic surveys in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Greek side believes that Ankara is violating the boundaries of its continental shelf.
