European Parliament proposes a transitional period for London after Brexit

Katharina Barley and other representatives of the European Parliament have proposed to the UK to extend the transition agreement. In their opinion, this must be done, since the country is in a very difficult situation due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Also in the press, there was a report that some MPs in the British Parliament, representing the Conservative Party, also recommended to extend the transition period.

To date, the negotiating teams have failed to make progress on the most important trade agreement issues. Serious controversies remain to overfish and ensuring fair competition.

Experts note that if London refuses to extend the transition period, then after January 1, both the UK and the European Union will face additional problems.

Last Friday, the European Parliament discussed emergency measures to be taken if the UK leaves the EU without an agreement.
