Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the company may start accepting bitcoins as a means of payment again, according to Reuters.
The entrepreneur stressed that more “green”, renewable energy sources were increasingly used in the production of bitcoins.
“I wanted to do a little more due diligence to confirm that the percentage of renewable energy use is most likely 50% or higher and that there is a trend to increase this number, and if so, Tesla will resume accepting bitcoins,” Musk said at the B-Word conference.
In May, Tesla announced that it would stop accepting bitcoins for car sales. Musk then clarified that the cryptocurrency itself is a good idea, but its use should not “be expensive for the environment.” Against the background of this statement, the bitcoin exchange rate collapsed.
