The President of Poland proposed to provide in the legislation a norm that allows the termination of pregnancy in the event of a high probability of death of newborns.

According to Prezydent.pl, this is stated in an open letter from Andrzej Duda.
“Taking into account the recommendations of the Tribunal, this project provides for a new addition, which restores the possibility of abortion in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, only in the case of so-called fatal defects. That is when a medical analysis shows a high probability of a stillborn child or he has an incurable disease or defect, which will lead to death despite therapeutic actions, “wrote Duda.
He added that if this amendment is adopted, there will again be three legal grounds for termination of pregnancy in the legislation: a threat to the mother’s life, pregnancy as a result of rape or incest, a serious fetal defect leading to his death.
The President noted that he expects a broad consensus on this matter and cooperation between the authorities and the opposition.
The head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki, has already announced his intention to hold consultations with the opposition on the president’s proposal next Monday.
As previously reported, the Constitutional Court of Poland on October 22 found that abortion based on fetal pathology violates the constitutional principle of protecting life associated with the provision of human dignity.
This narrows the legal field for abortion. From now on, pregnancy can only be terminated if it was the result of rape or incest, or in case of a threat to the woman’s life.
This decision angered many Poles, citizens took to the streets in protest.
