China proposes to assign people QR codes with data on COVID-19

Xi Jinping, Chairman of the People’s Republic of China, invited world leaders to use QR codes to create a health certificate mechanism.

It is reported by the BBC.

“China has proposed a global mechanism for the mutual recognition of health certificates based on the results of nucleic acid tests in the form of internationally recognized QR codes. We hope that more countries will join this mechanism,” he said.

The essence of this mechanism is as follows: information on the test results for COVID-19 is encrypted into a QR code that is stored in the phone. With the help of a special application, information can be read immediately from the bearer’s phone.

A similar system has been used in China since the beginning of the  pandemic. Each person receives a “red”, “yellow” or “green” QR code based on tests and general health. To visit public places, the code must be “green”.
