Britain has settled a dispute with France over changes to fishing regulations and is returning its warships from the island of Jersey. This is reported by the BBC.
Two Royal Navy ships are preparing to return home after the end of a protest by French fishermen about post-Brexit rights in Jersey territorial waters. The UK government said “the situation has been resolved for now” but they “remain on standby ” to help Jersey.
French fishermen claim that their rights are unfairly restricted by licenses issued under the new Channel Islands system.
The UK said it had agreed with the Jersey government that one of the Royal Navy’s offshore patrol vessels would return to port on Thursday evening and the rest on Friday morning.
” We are pleased that the French fishing boats have left the Jersey area, ” said Jan Horst, Jersey’s Foreign Relations minister.
