Britain has imposed sanctions against Belarus

The imposed sanctions on 99 individuals and legal entities from after the incident with the Ryanair plane. This was stated by the Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom Dominic Raab, reports The Guardian.

Also, according to the publication, the aviation regulator suspended the permits for flights to the kingdom of all charter carriers of Belarus.

Earlier it was reported that the British authorities revoked the permission of the Belarusian airline “Belavia” to operate flights to the kingdom. Also, the Secretary of State for Transport of Great Britain, Grant Shapps, said that he demanded that British airlines avoid the airspace of Belarus.

On May 23, the founder of the NEXTA Telegram channel, Roman Protasevich, was detained by Belarusian law enforcement agencies after an emergency landing of an Irish Ryanair plane en route from Athens to Vilnius.

It was also reported about the detention of his girlfriend, Russian Sofia Sapegi. In Belarus, Protasevich is charged with several counts, including organizing mass riots. The Belarusian authorities consider the NEXTA Telegram channel to be extremist.

After the incident, the EU is considering the introduction of a ban on its aircraft entering the airspace of Belarus. The Latvian airline airBaltic decided to stop flights over Belarus.
