President Joe Biden said that the United States military mission in Afghanistan will end on August 31. He said this at a press conference at the White House.
“When I announced the withdrawal of our troops in April, I said that we would withdraw them by September. And we are on the way to fulfill this goal,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that the United States withdrew more than 90% of its military contingent from Afghanistan.
In 2020, the United States and the Taliban signed an armistice agreement for the first time in more than 18 years of war. According to the agreements, American troops must leave Afghanistan by September 11. The administration of the new US president Joe Biden has announced its intention to review the agreements with the Taliban.
