Biden plans to convene a global summit on the fight against coronavirus

US President Joe Biden plans to convene a global summit on the fight against coronavirus in the near future, the newspaper Politico writes, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, the event may take place at the end of September.

It is planned that the meeting of world leaders will be devoted to the response to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as to universal vaccination efforts. Among the topics for discussion are also the supply of oxygen to countries in need and the possibility of international cooperation in the field of research related to COVID-19.

According to Politico, the summit will be timed to coincide with the regular session of the UN General Assembly in the third decade of September. The publication notes that some countries have already been informed about the intention of the US president to convene an international conference, but Washington has not yet sent formal invitations to other participants.

Earlier, US health officials called on the White House to suspend revaccination of the population from COVID-19 due to insufficient data, and wait for “full approval” of “booster” doses from the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
