The State Radio and Television Administration of China has banned BBC World News from broadcasting in its country.
According to Reuters, the British Broadcasting Corporation’s television channel violates the principle of credibility and impartiality.
“Since the channel does not meet the established broadcasting requirements in China as a foreign channel, BBC World News is prohibited from continuing to operate in China,” the agency said in a statement.
According to the regulator, the news broadcasted on the channel “harmed China’s national interests and undermined national unity.”
On February 4, British regulator Ofcom revoked its license from the Chinese state-owned foreign broadcaster CGTN. They noted that the company that owns the broadcasting license “was not editorially responsible” for the content that was broadcast.
