At least 40 people were killed in a fire at a coronavirus hospital in Iraq

At least 40 people were killed and 30 injured in a fire at a  hospital in the city of Nasiriyah in southern Iraq, a representative of local health authorities told Alsumaria TV channel.

According to preliminary information, the cause of the fire in the hospital is an of an oxygen cylinder. The flames engulfed all the buildings of the building. The source noted that “ as a result of the fire, three oxygen cylinders exploded.”

The Health Department of Dhi Kar Province, where the hospital is located, has declared a state of emergency. Search operations at the hospital are continuing after the fire was brought under control.

According to Reuters, two medical workers were among the dead. Health sources said that the death toll may increase, as many patients are still not detected.

The Iraqi National Agency previously reported that 13 people were killed in the fire.
