Security guard Steve Buckett, who killed cats for eight months in the city of Brighton in the UK, has been sentenced to more than five years in prison. This is reported by the Guardian.
The 54-year-old had previously denied 16 counts of causing damage in connection with the killing of cats and one count of possession of a knife.
The owners of some of the cats killed by the defendant were present at the hearing in court on July 30. He was sentenced, the man will stay in prison for five years and three months. According to the investigation, nine cats were killed and seven were injured.
The man committed crimes from October 2018 to June 2019 until he was caught in the lens of a surveillance camera. The evidence provided by one of the owners of the killed animal helped the investigation.
During the trial, the jury heard the stories of several cat owners who discovered that their pets were injured on their doorstep.
Sentencing Bouquet, Judge Jeremy Gold, stressed that his behavior was “very cruel”.
A knife with the blood of a kitten on it and the DNA of a Bouquet on the handle was found at the guard’s house.
The owners of the killed cats welcomed the court’s decision, hoping that the serial criminal will be provided with psychological help in prison.
