A new strain of coronavirus was discovered in Ireland, which had previously been identified in the UK. The corresponding statement was made by the country’s chief sanitary doctor Tony Holohan.
“I can confirm that we have discovered a new ‘UK’ variant of COVID-19.”
The infection was identified by virologists at University College Dublin. In the near future, it will be established whether the new version of COVID has managed to thoroughly spread throughout Ireland.
Earlier it was reported that two more new strains of coronavirus were identified in the UK. Prime Minister Boris Johnson associated the increased number of cases with the new COVID-19 mutation. According to him, the new strain was 70% more infectious than the previous ones. Against the background of this statement, many EU countries began to announce the closure of borders.
